Supreme Court of Illinois, opinion filed January 19, 1967, Justice Underwood writing; rehearing denied March 27, 1967. The caption reads “Illinois Crime Investigating Commission, Appellee, vs. Fiore Buccieri et al., Appellants.”

The opinion records that on November 17, 1965 the Illinois Crime Investigating Commission resolved to hold public hearings on January 12, 13 and 14, 1966, in Chicago, “to determine the extent to which organized criminal elements are involved in the ‘loan shark’ or ‘juice’ racket in Cook County,” and that subpoenas commanded “the fifteen defendants” to appear and testify. They did not appear. The court affirmed the Cook County order directing them to appear, holding that the commission act’s court-enforcement section must be read to require notice and an opportunity to be heard.

The opinion names Buccieri only as the first appellant. It does not name the other fourteen in the text read, and it does not describe any defendant’s role or say anything about him beyond the caption. This is a state court record; no federal opinion with him as a party was found.
