United States Court of Appeals, First Circuit, May 24, 1988. The court affirmed the convictions of Jason Angiulo for illegal gambling, William Kazonis for obstruction, and John Cincotti on RICO and gambling counts. It also addressed an ex post facto argument about the reach of RICO.

The court states that most of the evidence “was the product of lengthy electronic surveillance, both audio and video, conducted in 1981 at 98 Prince Street in Boston, the headquarters for operations of Gennaro Angiulo, father of defendant Jason Angiulo and a known ‘underboss’ of the Patriarca Family, and at 51 North Margin Street, Boston, the site of certain high-stakes poker games.” It summarizes a government witness who, “based on his analysis of the tape recordings,” gave the titles he assigned to people in the organization. That is a witness’s analysis as the court reports it.

A footnote records that the conviction of the lawyer William Cintolo was affirmed in 818 F.2d 980. The main RICO appeal of Gennaro Angiulo and others is 897 F.2d 1169.
