Rights
A federal prison identification photograph published by the Federal Bureau of Investigation: the FBI captions it as Barker at Alcatraz and the placard reads "U.S. Penitentiary." A United States government work, public domain under 17 U.S.C. § 105. The stored copy was captured from the FBI's page.

The FBI’s Barker/Karpis page captions this photograph “Gangster Arthur ‘Doc’ Barker, member of Barker-Karpis gang, at Alcatraz.” The placard at the bottom of the frame begins “U.S. Penitent…”; the rest is cut off.

The FBI gives no date. His Alcatraz notebook page records his receipt on October 26, 1935 and his death in the prison hospital on January 13, 1939, so a photograph taken at Alcatraz falls between those dates. The notebook page carries a different identification photograph.
