Part 01 of the Vault’s file on Paul Castellano, read through the viewer’s OCR text layer; the reading tool stopped at 400 pages. Most serials date from 1956 to 1962.

A 1962 FBI report relays an informant, designated NY T-5, who “named CARLO GAMBINO as a ‘boss’” in the New York City area and “named PAUL C. CASTELLANO as a ‘caporegima’ who replaced FRANK CASTELLANO,” his deceased uncle (the quotations are cleaned from garbled OCR). That is an informant’s statement as the Bureau recorded it.

A 1985 teletype near the front of the part states that on July 5, 1972 Thomas Eboli “WAS ACTING BOSS OF THE GENOVESE FAMILY AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY MURDERED ON JULY 16, 1972, IN BROOKLYN, NY” (the OCR reads “EBOLL”). Both are FBI statements, labelled as such on the person pages.
