Scan 65 of the FBI Vault’s “Bugsy Siegel” file, Part 28, is an office memorandum dated 6-23-47 to Mr. Rosen; the sender’s name is blacked out. The subject is “Benjamin “Bugs” Siegel; Virginia Hill; Miscellaneous - Information Concerning, Crime Survey.” It was read from the stored page image.
Its purpose is “to advise that Bureau files reflect Virginia Hill is 29 years of age and Siegel was 41 years of age at the time of his death.” The background reads: “Virginia Hill has been Siegel’s paramour and for the past four or five years has received considerable newspaper publicity and notoriety because of the expensive parties she has given … According to an affidavit filed with the State Liquor Authority, New York City, she stated she was born in Bessemer, Alabama, on August 25, 1917.” It refers to a background summary on her at pages 51 to 55 of a Los Angeles report of August 20, 1946, in Bureau file 62-81518, and to file 62-68739.
“Paramour” is the Bureau’s word, quoted, not adopted. The 1917 birth date is what the memo says she stated in an affidavit; in her 1951 Senate testimony she gave 1916. This archive does not choose between them.
