A one-page letter, file SI-7085-F, dated April 8, 1931, from Special Agent Frank J. Wilson at Chicago to the Chief, Intelligence Unit, Bureau of Internal Revenue. The IRS lists it as file 4; its link points to the /pub/irs-pia/ folder rather than /pub/foia/, and that is the address given here.
Wilson reports the agents’ new office in Room 1028, 7 South Dearborn Street. He describes a conference with Mr. Clawson, the new First Assistant U.S. Attorney, about a possible conspiracy indictment naming Al Capone, Ralph Capone, Peter Penovich, Louis La Cava and others. He notes that Louis Alterie, connected with the Hawthorne Smoke Shop gambling house, denied any connection before the grand jury and was charged with perjury.
The spellings “La Cava” and “Hess,” an attorney named in the letter, were read from a low-resolution page image and are not confirmed. The page image is the record.
