Walter Clark, sheriff of Broward County, testified at Miami on 27 May and 15 July 1950; his testimony runs pp. 126-134 and 452-475 of Part 1, and the Lansky exchanges are at pp. 128-132 and 452-455. Senator Kefauver asked whether Jake Lansky, who was operating Greenacres and had operated the Colonial Inn, had got in touch with him when he opened; Clark answered no. On 15 July the Senator asked whether Clark knew Lansky’s record and partners, and Clark answered that he knew Jake Lansky but did not know of the long record or the partners.
The characterization of Jake Lansky’s record is the Senator’s question, which Clark says he did not know. A 1957 FBI Miami report, filed in this archive, says that after the Kefauver hearings Clark was removed from office by Governor Fuller Warren; that statement is the FBI’s, not Clark’s.
