M. C. Beasley, chief of police of Tampa, testified on 29 December 1950 (pp. 80-89 of Part 1-A). Counsel Downey Rice read from the department’s files descriptions of 1936-1939 shooting deaths and woundings, among them Angelo Greco, Eddie Verellio, Tito Rubio and Joe Vaglichi, and noted that the files consisted largely of clippings, photographs and letters, with few investigators’ reports. Asked about files on the attempts on the life of Charles Wall, Beasley answered that there were two files (pp. 84-85). Exhibit 7 in the schedule is “Records introduced by M. C. Beasley, chief of police, Tampa.”

The list of killings is counsel’s reading of the files; Beasley’s own answers are mostly that the files were loosely kept. At p. 84 counsel states that one source claimed the Mafia in one killing and another source said otherwise. These are quoted allegations inside testimony, not findings, and none of the killings is shown here to have been solved.
