Kefauver Part 7: Joe Adonis declines to answer questions about Luciano in Havana and the Jockey Club (12 December 1950, pp. 291-292, 302)
Counsel asked Joseph Doto, called Joe Adonis, whether he ever saw Luciano in Havana, what they talked about, and whether he had a gambling business at the Jockey Club in Havana. He declined each time on the ground that the answer might tend to incriminate him.

Printed pages 291-292 and 302 of Part 7, from the session of Tuesday, 12 December 1950. Rudolph Halley asked Joseph Doto whether he knew Charlie “Lucky” Luciano. Doto said yes, for “Twenty-odd years,” and that he had not talked with him in the last two years. Halley then asked: “Did you ever see Charlie ‘Lucky’ Luciano in Habana, Cuba?” Doto answered: “I decline to answer on the ground it might tend to incriminate me.” He gave the same answer when asked what they talked about in Havana and whether he had business dealings with Luciano. He said he had never seen him in Italy and had never sent him money.
Asked how long he had known Jack Lansky and Meyer Lansky, he said “Many years,” and declined to say whether he had been associated with them in business. At page 302 Halley asked, “Did you ever have any business in Habana?” and “Were you ever in a gambling business at the Jockey Club in Habana?” Doto declined to answer both.
The questions are counsel’s. A refusal to answer establishes nothing about Havana, and this archive does not treat the questions as facts. The committee’s contempt report on Doto is filed as Senate Report 82-25.
