Printed page 338 of Part 7, from the session of Wednesday, 13 December 1950. Asked by Rudolph Halley whether he knew Lucky Luciano, William Moretti answered “Very well,” and called him “A good friend of mine.” He said he had no business dealings with him and called him “a gambler at the race tracks like everybody else that I know.”
Asked whether he had seen Luciano in the last five years, he said yes, and to “Where?” he answered “Cuba.” He said he went there to see him with “Myself and two other fellows,” whom he named as “Vincent Mangano and Gerry Catena,” and stayed “About 5 or 6 days.” Asked whether he saw other people there, he said: “No; just a couple of Cubans—couldn’t even talk to them.” He said no other people from the United States were there, that he never sent or gave Luciano money, and that he went “Because he is a friend of mine.”
The page does not give the date of the trip. Gerald Catena described what appears to be the same trip on 14 February 1951. These are answers under oath, not findings of the committee.
