The Library of Congress gives this photograph the log-book title “Hoffa on Trial at Senate Racket Com.” and the date 20 August 1957. The photographer was Warren K. Leffler. It is frame 25 of contact sheet Job no. 986C in the U.S. News & World Report collection.
The log-book title uses “trial” loosely. The session was a hearing of the Senate Select Committee on Improper Activities in the Labor or Management Field, not a trial. On that day Hoffa was sworn and gave his first testimony to the committee, printed in Part 13 of the hearings.
