Part 10 covers the hearings of 31 July and 1, 2, 5 and 6 August 1957, held in the caucus room of the Senate Office Building. The first day opens the committee’s series on New York union locals.

In his opening statement (printed pp. 3591-3592) the chairman thanked District Attorney Frank Hogan of New York for his help and said: “In my judgment, the evidence will disclose that hoodlums and racketeers came into the labor picture with the aid and assistance of certain high level union officials.” He said the charters of the locals “were used as instruments for the commission of extortion from employers,” and that the members’ fees and dues “provided an income for the mob that worked for Johnny Dioguardi and Antonio (Tony Ducks) Corallo.”

These are the chairman’s statements of what the committee expected the evidence to show. They are not findings of a court. The committee’s conclusions on the New York locals are in its interim report, under “New York teamster phony locals.” The testimony in this volume has not been read for this page.
