A record of the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, Department of Justice, held by the National Archives at Chicago in Record Group 118. A United States government work, public domain in the United States under 17 U.S.C. § 105. The National Archives catalog lists access and use as unrestricted.

A typed carbon, marked “Personal & Confidential,” from George E. Q. Johnson, United States Attorney at Chicago, to Assistant Attorney General G. A. Youngquist in Washington, dated 6 May 1931. Johnson asks to move their meeting earlier because the Attorney General would attend a cabinet meeting.

The catalog describes the meeting as one to discuss the case against Al Capone. The letter itself does not name Capone. The catalog description calls Johnson “U.S. Attorney General”; that is an error in the catalog. He was the United States Attorney, and the letter is signed that way.
