A hand-coloured lantern slide in the General Records of the Department of the Treasury (Record Group 56), series "Photographs of Treasury Department Personnel, Facilities and Activities" (NAID 516576), whose slides, the catalog says, were prepared for the Panama-Pacific Exposition of 1915 or the Mississippi Centennial of 1917. The item and the series both read "Use Restriction: Unrestricted." A United States government work, public domain under 17 U.S.C. § 105. The stored copy is an 1,800-pixel downsample of the catalog's scan.

The National Archives catalog title is “Secret Service Division – William J. Flynn, Chief of Division and Staff,” local identifier 56-AT-60. The slide’s printed caption reads “SECRET SERVICE DIVISION. WILLIAM J. FLYNN, CHIEF OF DIVISION, AND STAFF.” It shows an office with framed pictures on the wall: a man seated at a desk writing, six men standing behind the desk, one seated beside it, and one in an armchair at the right. The slide does not mark which man is Flynn, and this page does not guess.

The catalog’s digital objects for this record and for NAID 158884157 are crossed. The file attached to this record (56-AT-060A.jpg) is a slide captioned “Internal Revenue Bureau, Chemical Laboratory, Testing Whiskies”; the slide whose caption matches this record’s title is attached to the NAID 158884157 record as 56-AT-060.jpg. The image stored here is that one.

The catalog gives no date. The series was prepared for the exhibitions of 1915 or 1917, which is the basis for the date span here. The Secret Service was then a division of the Treasury; the slide records its chief and staff, not any case.
