- A catalog description of Bureau of Prisons records, United States government records, public domain under 17 U.S.C. § 105. The catalog marks access "Restricted - Fully" pending FOIA (b)(6) screening and use "Restricted - Possibly," noting that some of these records may be subject to copyright restrictions.
The series is “Notorious Offender Files, 1920–2010,” institutional and central-office files of the Bureau of Prisons on notorious inmates, held by the National Archives at College Park (Textual Reference). It is marked “Not Yet Available Online,” and its access status is “Restricted - Fully” pending screening under FOIA exemption (b)(6). The contents of Capone’s file have not been seen for this archive.
The catalog’s container list, in the Alcatraz Inmates subgroup, reads: “Box 32: … THRU Capone, Alphonse (85-AZ) (397-CAL) (9243-NE)” and “Box 33: Capone, Alphonse (85-AZ) (397-CAL) (9243-NE) THRU Coy, Bernard (415-AZ).” The number 85-AZ matches his Alcatraz register number on the National Archives inmate list. The catalog does not say which institutions the 397-CAL and 9243-NE numbers belong to, and this page does not guess.
