A letter by a United States Senator on Senate committee letterhead, filed in presidential records and treated here as a federal work. Public domain in the United States. 17 U.S.C. § 105. The National Archives catalog lists Use: Unrestricted.

The covering letter is dated December 6, 1950, and is written by Senator Harry P. Cain on the letterhead of the Senate Committee on Armed Services to Senator Lester Hunt. It addresses Hunt as a member of the Special Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce and forwards a memorandum of allegations supplied by informants. It states that the same letter went to each member of the committee.

The National Archives item has four page images. Only page 1, the covering letter, was read for this record. The attached memorandum was not read, so this page does not describe or repeat its allegations. An allegation passed to a committee by an informant is not a finding.

The catalog files the item in the Truman Library’s President’s Secretary’s Files, General Files, in a folder titled “Caudle, T. Lamar.” That is the catalog’s folder title; this archive does not read it as a statement about what the letter or its attachment says.
