Series "Warden's Notebook Pages" (NAID 296686), Records of the Bureau of Prisons (Record Group 129), National Archives at San Francisco. The National Archives catalog marks the item "Use Restriction: Unrestricted." The series note says that some information on the pages is incorrect when compared with the fuller inmate files, and that clippings in the series may be copyrighted; this page is a prison form. The copy stored here is a downsample of the first digitized image.
The National Archives catalog titles this page “SAWYER, HARRY - Alcatraz Number 297 - Warden’s Notebook.” It is a Bureau of Prisons notebook form with an identification photograph at the upper right; the placard in the photograph reads “U.S. Penitentiary Alcatraz 297”. It belongs to the series Warden’s Notebook Pages (NAID 296686).
The typed entries, as printed: name “Harry Sawyer,” No. 297, received 4/27/36 from Leavenworth, age 44, date of birth 12/15/91. Offense “Kidnapping Act-Consp.,” dated Jan. 24, 1936; sentence “Life”; district sentenced “Minn., - St Paul.” A stamp at the top reads “TRANSFERRED MAY 24 1943” and “to USP Leavenworth, Kan.” The “Reason for Transfer” box summarizes trial testimony and is staff opinion; it is not repeated here. The criminal-history column lists arrests from 1914 onward, which this page does not transcribe.
Catalog data, labelled as such: offense “KIDNAPPING & CONSPIRACY TO TRANSPORT (BREMER)”; received at Alcatraz 04/27/1936 from US Penitentiary, Leavenworth; transferred 05/24/1943 to US Penitentiary, Leavenworth; the remark reads “TN: SANDLOVICH, HARRY,” where “TN:” is not expanded in the catalog; birth date 12/15/1890; death date 06/23/1955, place blank. The page prints 12/15/91 and the catalog 1890; this archive records both.
