The catalog title is “United States of America vs Matthew M. Carrelli, Isadore Laffer, Alphonse Herman Esselman, Jack B. Otto, Fred E. Banes,” a criminal case file of the United States District Court at Cincinnati. The catalog scope note describes “the illegal use of football parlay cards, bet slips, books of records, racing forms, and other gambling paraphernalia.” The catalog gives 11995 as the criminal case number assigned by the court.

Only the first of the file’s 290 page images was viewed. It is a typed note on ruled paper, dated 6/14/73, “To: Judge PORTER Re: 11995,” listing motions submitted for three defendants: a bill of particulars and severance; dismissal of the indictment, severance, a bill of particulars and inspection of the grand jury minutes; and permission to inspect. It adds that two other defendants “have until June 25 to file their Motions.” Handwritten red notes read “granted” and “agreed to,” and the note is signed by hand.

The charges, the verdicts and the outcome were not read from the remaining images and are not stated here. The defendants appear here only as the court file names them.
