- Rights
- Record of a federal commission established by Executive Order 12435, printed by the Government Printing Office. A federal work, public domain in the United States under 17 U.S.C. § 105. Read from the National Criminal Justice Reference Service scan; the page image stored here is the title page from that scan.
The title page reads “Record of Hearing VI / Chicago, Illinois / Organized Crime and Labor-Management Racketeering in the United States / April 1985.” The hearing days were 22, 23 and 24 April 1985. Witnesses in the contents include Vincent Solano, Angelo Fosco and Jackie Presser.
Presser appeared under subpoena with counsel John Climaco of Cleveland. Asked by the Commission’s executive director, James D. Harmon, Jr., “What is your present occupation, Mr. Presser?” he answered: “I am the general president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.” Asked when he first held the post, he said he wished to make a statement, and began to describe his attorney’s request that his appearance be postponed. Acting Chairman Samuel K. Skinner ruled that this was “obviously not responsive to the question” and directed him to answer (printed pp. 292-294).
Only Presser’s appearance was read in full. The record is a transcript of questions and answers before a presidential commission; it states no findings. The Commission’s conclusions are in its 1986 report, The Edge.
