The title page shown here gives the hearing days as February 17, 18, 19, 25, 26 and 27, 1981, before the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations of the Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, 97th Congress, first session. The subcommittee’s 1984 report is based on these hearings.
The witness list includes FBI Director William H. Webster, FBI agents among them Louis J. Freeh, former federal prosecutors, New Jersey State Police detective Robert Delaney, officials of the Waterfront Commission, ILA president Thomas W. Gleason, and union officials and others who appeared with counsel. The contents note that one subpoenaed witness, Anthony Salerno, “did not appear.” The scan’s contents page is jumbled in the OCR, and the witness names were checked against the list in the 1984 report.
Only the title and contents pages were read for this page. A hearing record is a record of statements and answers, not of findings, and this page does not repeat what witnesses said about individuals.
