The report was ordered printed on 27 August 1984, filed under an order of the Senate of 10 August. It covers the subcommittee’s investigation of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union from 1981 to 1984. Its contents include sections on Atlantic City Local 54, on Las Vegas Local 226, including a heading on “Organized crime ties to Local 226,” and on union benefit and dental plans.

The chronology records five sets of public hearings. “On June 22 and 23, 1982, Locals 54 (Atlantic City) and 5 (Honolulu) were reviewed,” followed by hearings on locals in California, Nevada, Atlanta and Miami. “In November 1983, Anthony Accardo, alleged to be the former head of organized crime in Chicago,” appeared before the subcommittee. On 15 May 1984 the union’s general president, Edward Hanley, appeared under subpoena, “asserted his privilege against self-incrimination and refused to answer any questions regarding PSI’s investigation.”

Only the front matter, contents, preamble and chronology were read. The report’s statements about individuals are the subcommittee’s, not court findings.
