On the record

  • 25 April 2005 — The U.S. Attorney's release on the Family Secrets indictment lists Paul Schiro, "also known as 'the Indian'," as an alleged criminal associate of Frank Schweihs, "deceased 'made' member Anthony Spilotro," and Joseph Hansen, who "committed murder and other crimes on behalf of the Outfit." These are the indictment's allegations.
  • 2007 — United States v. Schiro (7th Cir. 2012) states that Calabrese and Marcello "were tried, together with three other members of the Outfit — Joseph Lombardo, Paul Schiro, and Anthony Doyle," that the jury convicted all five, and that the judge sentenced Schiro to 20 years.
  • 1 May 2012 — The opinion says the indictment accused Schiro of the murder of Emil "Mal" Vaci and that "the jury refused in its special verdict to find that Schiro had been involved in the murder"; the court called this "a semantic rather than a substantive finding" because, it said, he took part in planning and surveillance. It affirmed his conviction.
