Page 2 of the Evening Star, Washington, Tuesday, 26 May 1925. The Associated Press brief, datelined Chicago, May 26, reports that Angelo Genna, brother of Michael Genna, “who is reputed to have fallen heir to much of the influence once held by the late Michael Merlo among Italian Americans here, was riddled with bullets and probably fatally wounded today as he drove his automobile on the North Side.”

It says the three would-be assassins escaped and that Genna refused to talk at the hospital.

This is an early same-day report: the Montgomery Advertiser of the next morning, also filed, reports that he was shot to death. The account of the Gennas’ standing is the wire service’s.
