A United States newspaper published in 1930 or earlier. Public domain in the United States. The Library of Congress serves the page from Chronicling America.

Front page of the Sun, Sunday, 20 February 1910. The Library of Congress OCR of this page doubles and garbles most lines; the headline was read from it as “Lupo to Prison for 30 Years,” with the number rendered “80 O.” The body and the Tribune of the same day give thirty years. Names and numbers below were checked against the Tribune.

The story reports that the eight defendants were found guilty on all six counts and sentenced to terms in the federal prison at Atlanta, thirty years for Lupo and twenty-five for Morello. It quotes Judge Ray as saying he believed the verdict just and that “Lupo and Morello were at the head of this enterprise.” It also reports the judge’s remark on Lupo’s testimony that he had killed a man in Palermo, which Lupo had described as self-defence.

The paper calls the defendants “Sicilian counterfeiters” and says they were “regarded as leaders in Black Hand operations.” Those are the paper’s words, quoted as the record’s wording only; the conviction was for counterfeiting, not extortion (189 F. 305).
