Page 4 of the Washington Daily News, 18 March 1930. The story “Capone Disappears; His Whereabouts Is Being Kept Secret,” credited to United Press from Philadelphia, says Capone, with “the co-operation from his former enemies, the police, disappeared more mysteriously today than at any of the many times that authorities of the law have searched the continent for him.”

It reports that he had been removed from the Eastern Penitentiary to Graterford the day before and “has not been seen since he slipped out of Graterford Prison shortly before sundown yesterday, climbed into a Packard sedan and drove away.” The paper gives two theories of where he was going, a train to Chicago or a flight to Camden, and calls both apparently incorrect.

The page reports a release that the Washington Times of 17 March also covers. Graterford is named only here.
