Minute entries of the Eastern District of New York for the trial of Vincent Basciano before Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis. The jury was empaneled after selection on April 11, 2011. The entry for April 12 reads: “Jury Trial as to Vincent Basciano held on 4/12/2011. Opening statements. Witnesses called: Glen Santoro, Matthew Steiner and Joseph Massino.” Massino is listed again as a witness on April 13, 14, 18 and 21, 2011.
The entry for May 6, 2011 reads: “Witness called: Salvatore Vitale and Carlos Medina; Defense rests.” The docket does not say which side called Vitale, and nothing more is read into it here.
On May 16, 2011: “Jury renders a guilty verdict on all three counts; See verdict sheet.” The charges were the conspiracy to murder and the murder of Randolph Pizzolo in aid of racketeering, as described in the district court’s January 2011 opinion. The opinion records that Massino had become a government informant; with it, this docket is the court record of his testimony at the trial.
