A federal prison identification photograph published by the Federal Bureau of Investigation: the placard number 29362 is the U.S. Penitentiary, Leavenworth number given for Kelly's 1928 commitment on Identification Order No. 1203. A United States government work, public domain under 17 U.S.C. § 105. The stored copy was captured from the FBI's page. Other Kelly photographs on the same page are credited to the Oklahoma City Police Department and are not used.

The FBI’s Machine Gun Kelly page captions these photographs as mug shots of George “Machine Gun” Kelly, whose real name it gives as George Barnes. The profile view shows a placard reading 29362.

The page does not date the photographs. Identification Order No. 1203 records that “George Kelley, No. 29362,” was received at the U.S. Penitentiary, Leavenworth, on February 11, 1928 from Tulsa, for possession of liquor, sentence three years. The date range given here, 1928 to 1933, is inferred from that number and from the order’s date; the photographs themselves carry no date.
