The Vault’s file on Christopher Furnari, a single part of 106 pages, read through the viewer’s OCR text layer. Most serials come from the New York Division in 1984 and concern the investigations the Bureau called STAR, into La Cosa Nostra control of the construction industry.
A memorandum of January 3, 1984 states: “This investigation indicates that GENOVESE family boss SALERNO has a great deal of control over the construction trades.” The same memorandum describes a FIVE STAR investigation of “the ‘commission’ as a criminal enterprise.” These are the Bureau’s statements in its own investigative file, made a year before the Commission indictment.
The case that followed is United States v. Salerno, 868 F.2d 524, in which Furnari was a defendant.
