The Vault titles this part “Joseph Adonis Part 01.” It has 178 scanned pages of poor quality and was read through the viewer’s OCR; the page images could not be fetched. Only legible passages are used here.
As far as the OCR can be read, the part opens with New York reports and Army letters of April to June 1943 about an alleged kickback racket in hiring stevedores and carpenters at the Brooklyn Army Base, New York Port of Embarkation, in which workers were said to pay part of their wages to a hiring boss. A New York report on page 12 is captioned with “Joseph Adonis, with aliases Joe Adonis and Joseph Doto,” and his name appears on a number of later pages. The Bureau’s file number for the case is 46-480 (“Fraud Against the Government”).
Statements by informants in this part claim that Adonis controlled waterfront hiring. They are allegations recorded in the Bureau’s file, not findings, and they are not repeated here. Nothing read in this part states a charge or an outcome against him. His own later testimony, in which he gave his name as Joseph Doto, is in Senate Report 25.
