The Vault titles this part “Joseph Adonis Part 02.” It has 314 scanned pages, read through the viewer’s OCR; pages 6, 9, 12, 38, 48 and 50 were read closely.
Page 6 is the title page of a New York report made by Special Agent Carl J. Sorensen and dated November 2, 1944. Its character line reads “Fraud Against the Government, Kickback Racket Conspiracy, Bribery,” and its place line reads “U. S. Army Base, New York Port of Embarkation, 58th Street First Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.” The title lists a number of subjects, among them “JOSEPH ADONIS, with aliases: Joe Adonis, Joseph Doto.” The report’s leads refer to an earlier report of April 24, 1944 and to the War Frauds attorney in New York. An index guide dated November 18, 1944 is at page 48. A Miami letter of November 18, 1944 (page 50) asks for the Bureau’s criminal record of “Joseph A. Adonis, with aliases Joseph A. Doto, Joseph Demio,” and the form gives FBI number 500203, as read from the OCR.
To be named in the title of a report is to be a subject of the inquiry. Nothing read in this part states a prosecution or an outcome for Adonis in this case, and the other subjects named in the title are not listed here for that reason. Later pages run into the 1960s and were not read in detail.
