A record of the Federal Bureau of Investigation released under FOIA in the FBI Vault. A United States government work, public domain under 17 U.S.C. § 105. The stored image is a grayscale render of the Vault viewer's page scan.

The Vault lists the Machine Gun Kelly file in 97 parts. The cover of Part 01, stored here, reads: “Subject: George Barnes (aka ‘Machine Gun Kelly’), File: 7-115, Part 1 of 23.” The “23” counts the FOIA release volumes, not the Vault’s parts.

The part’s 100 viewer pages are papers from the last week of July 1933, after the July 22 kidnaping of Charles F. Urschel: memoranda for the Director of July 25 to 28, memoranda for the Attorney General dated July 24 and 25, correspondence with the Oklahoma City chief of police, and a confidential circular of July 29, 1933. Some pages are FOIA deleted-page sheets. Part 02 continues with a July 28 letter from Special Agent in Charge R. H. Colvin at Oklahoma City and field-office correspondence on tracing the ransom currency. The individual documents were identified from the viewer’s text layer and are not quoted here.
