Part 01 of the FBI Vault’s “Mafia Monograph,” scan 22 (printed page xii of the summary). The Vault landing page and the pages examined give no date for the monograph; it speaks of Apalachin in the past tense.
The page states: “The visits of Giuseppe Bonanno and Carmine Galante, notorious American hoodlums, to Palermo, Sicily, shortly before the Apalachin, New York convention of hoodlums on November 14, 1957 are viewed with interest.” “Notorious,” “hoodlums” and “convention” are the monograph’s words and are quoted, not adopted. The sentence records that the FBI viewed the timing with interest. It does not state what the visits were for. The page is darkened at the right edge; the quoted lines are legible.
