FBI summary on Santo Trafficante, Jr., and the Miami airtel of 29 July 1957 giving its sources: 'owns and operates the Sans Souci Night Club and Casino in Havana'

A mid-1957 Top Hoodlum summary states that in December 1956 'information was developed that subject' owns and operates the Sans Souci Night Club and Casino in Havana; Miami's reply to headquarters names the sources for that line as information of 3 August 1956 and the Legal Attache in Havana on 20 December 1956.

Viewer pages 27 to 32 of Part 01 hold an exchange of July 1957. On 26 July headquarters asked Miami, by airtel signed Hoover, for the source of particular items in its summary on Trafficante of 19 July (page 27). Miami’s airtel of 29 July (pages 28-29; the stored image is page 29) answers item by item, and the summary itself follows (pages 30-32).

On page 32 the summary says that in December 1956 information was developed that the subject “owns and operates the Sans Souci Night Club and Casino in Havana, Cuba” (a FOIA exemption mark stands beside the line), that he “is known to have made frequent trips to Havana, Cuba where he is closely associated with NORMAN ROTHMAN,” and that “While in Cuba, he generally hangs out around the Sans Souci Night Club and the Sevillia Biltmore Hotel, Havana.” Miami’s airtel gives the sources: “Information concerning subject’s operation of the Sans Souci Night Club, Havana, furnished by” a redacted source “on 8/3/56 and the Legat Havana 12/20/56,” and it says the 1955 memo reporting the Havana hangouts gave no source.

The ownership line is information “developed” from a redacted source and the Legal Attache, not a finding. Other pages of the summary carry labels from a redacted informant, the Hillsborough County sheriff and newspapers; this archive does not use them as a chart seat, and it does not reproduce a home address printed on page 30.
