Exhibit No. 61, printed on page 462 of the appendix to Part 6 and shown above from the Internet Archive scan. It is signed at the lower right “by Edward J. Allen, Chief of Police, Youngstown, Ohio, January 1951.” Allen told the committee he drew it “for the purpose of this committee.”
The top box reads “District Operations of the Licavoli Gang and Associates (aka Purple Gang).” Beneath it, a box headed “Nominal Leader” names “Peter Licavoli (Detroit, Mich. - Tucson, Ariz.), Connections throughout USA.” A “Cleveland, Ohio Area” box lists James Licavoli “(cousin to Peter),” the Angersolas (Fred, John and George, “alias King”), Al Polizzi, Jerry Milano, Anthony Milano and Frank Brancato. Four boxes below are headed Mahoning County (including Youngstown), Trumbull County (including Warren), Western Pennsylvania and Buffalo, N.Y.; the Buffalo box lists, among others, “John Tronolone (Bflo., Miami, Cleveland).”
The chart is a police chief’s diagram of the people he associated with one another. Its labels (“Nominal Leader,” the “aka Purple Gang” heading) are his, and a chart label sets no rank or role on this site. None of these names is carried onto a family chart.
