Printed pages 19 to 28 and 118 to 175 of Part 6. Alvin E. Giesey, a Cleveland accountant, was questioned about clients for whom his firm prepared tax returns, and canceled checks, deeds and returns were received as exhibits 2 to 7 and later; the schedule lists them, but they are not printed in full.
Asked about the Detroit Steel Corp., he said: “when I got out of the Army they owned 10,000 shares of stock of the Detroit Steel Corp., of which Mr. Haas owned one-third, and Mr. Kleinman, Rothkopf, Dalitz, and Tucker owned the other two-thirds,” and that “They reported on their income-tax return of dividends paid by the Detroit Steel Corp.” He said he understood that the Kleinman group had gone into the Desert Inn at Las Vegas. Committee counsel also asked him about returns his firm had prepared for John Scalish for 1948 and 1949; Giesey said he did not recall doing other work for him.
Giesey’s answers are testimony about his clients’ records. The committee did not charge him.
