Part 33 of the McClellan Committee’s hearings covers the restaurant industry in the Chicago area, July 1958. A witness recorded as “Sam Battaglia” testified on 11 July 1958 (pp. 12774-12781). He appeared without counsel, gave a residence in Oak Park, Illinois, and declined, on self-incrimination grounds, to give his occupation or birthplace. Chief counsel Kennedy suggested that he was born in Chicago in 1909. Exhibit 24, shown in Marshall Caifano’s session, was a photograph of Caifano and Battaglia.

No line in the pages read gives the name “Salvatore.” Whether this witness is the Salvatore Battaglia of United States v. Battaglia (7th Cir. 1968) is not established by any record filed here, so this page is not linked to that person page. Quotations follow the Internet Archive’s OCR of the printed volume. Page numbers are the printed running heads and can be off by one near a page break.
