Rights
A work of the United States Congress, printed by the Government Printing Office and held in the Records of the U.S. Senate. Public domain in the United States. 17 U.S.C. § 105. The National Archives catalog lists Use: Unrestricted.

The title page reads “Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce: Final Report of the Special Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce, United States Senate, pursuant to S. Res. 202 (81st Cong.) as amended by S. Res. 60 and S. Res. 129 (82d Cong.).” It is Senate Report No. 725, 82d Congress, 1st Session, “August 31 (legislative day, August 27), 1951.–Ordered to be printed,” Government Printing Office, 1951. The National Archives catalog holds 108 page images; the title page and the contents page were viewed for this record.

The contents page lists general observations, conclusions and recommendations; the committee’s background, staff and program; findings on narcotics; crime in medium-size cities (Atlantic City; Covington and Newport, Ky.; Scranton; Reading); crime in large cities (New York City, northern New Jersey, Florida, Maryland); a section on the status of the contempt cases; and a section on the use of television, newsreels and radio in the hearings.

This is the only one of the committee’s four reports found in a full-view government copy. The first, second and third interim reports were not found in one and are not filed. The body of the Final Report was not read for this page, so the findings are not summarized here. The contempt cases section, which the contents page places at page 96, is the place to read the outcomes of the contempt proceedings that the committee’s separate contempt reports began.

The catalog places the report in the series “Records Relating to Preparation of the Committee’s Reports” within the Records of the U.S. Senate.
