The National Archives catalog title is “Kefauver Addresses Media,” Truman Library identifier 73-3769, dated 15 January 1952, with the credit “Photographer: Abbie Rowe, National Park Service.” The description reads: “Tennessee Senator Estes Kefauver (center, at microphones) addresses unidentified members of the press after a meeting at the White House with President Harry S. Truman.”
The photograph shows a group of men outside an entrance with an awning and columns; a tall man in the centre smiles toward a cluster of microphones while reporters with notebooks stand around him. The identification of Kefauver is the catalog’s; the reporters are unidentified.
The picture is one of three frames of the same day; the first, “Kefauver Leaves White House,” is filed here as well. All three postdate the Special Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce, which Kefauver chaired and whose final report of 1951 is filed in this archive. They do not show the hearings, and the catalog does not say what was discussed at the White House.
