A typed index card from the U.S. Penitentiary at Atlanta, held by the National Archives at Atlanta in Record Group 129, in the file unit “Atlanta Federal Penitentiary, Index to Prisoners - Marietta-Martin, Earl.” The research for this archive found two scans of it at digital objects 43 and 44. The catalog’s search returned this unit for “Maritote” by a fuzzy match on “Marietta”; the card itself was found by browsing.

The card reads: name “MARITOTE, Francis,” No. 64955-A, alias “Frank Romano; Frances Tote; Etc.” The crime is “CONSP. TO INTERFERE WITH TRADE & COMM. BY VIOLENCE, THREATS & COERCION,” the district “S-NY-NEW YORK,” the sentence 10 years with a fine of $10,000 marked “PAID.” The date is 12-31-43, received 3-12-45, sentence begins 1-17-45, parole time 5-16-48, full time 1-16-55, residence “CHICAGO, ILL.” A stamp reads “Transferred to U.S. Penitentiary Leavenworth, Kansas JUL 28 1945.”

Maritote was received at Atlanta in March 1945, about eleven months after Compagna, Gioe and D’Andrea, and his sentence began on 17 January 1945; the card does not say why. He filed his own petition for certiorari, pro se, in 1945.
