- A work of the United States Senate, printed by the Government Printing Office. Public domain in the United States. 17 U.S.C. § 105.
Printed page 159 of Part 1 (NCJRS PDF page 164), from the session of 1 October 1963; the same day’s account of the initiation ceremony is filed separately. Senator Javits read back Valachi’s answer of 27 September about Genovese’s gambling interests and asked whether Genovese was still in Las Vegas gambling. Valachi said yes. Asked “What is his outfit there, do you know?” he answered: “Anywhere where Meyer Lansky is, Vito Genovese is.”
Asked for the hotel or establishment, he said: “I knew in Havana but since they went out of Havana, I know they have places in Las Vegas, but I don’t know them. But I knew the ones in Havana.” Asked whether Lansky and Genovese were associated, he answered: “Yes; they do everything together,” and said it persisted “As far as I know.” Later on the page he said: “As I say, I knew about Havana.”
He names no Havana establishment on this page. This is the witness’s opinion, given under oath; it does not document a partnership, and no role is copied from it to any family chart. He named the Capri on 9 October.
