Henry Hill
Indicted with James Burke at Tampa in 1970 in a federal extortion case, according to the FBI file. In 1983 the Second Circuit described him as the principal government witness in the Boston College point-shaving trial, testifying under an immunity agreement.
- Rights
- This page is limited to a published court opinion and an FBI file. It gives no personal detail beyond them.
On the record
- 18 November 1970 — FBI file (Vault, Henry Hill Part 01, New York report): "HENRY HILL was indicted on a five count true bill indictment handed down by the Federal Grand Jury, Tampa, Florida, on November 18, 1970," on the same charges as co-defendants including James Burke.
- 19 November 1970 — Same file: arraigned before a U.S. Commissioner in the Eastern District of New York, Brooklyn.
- Before trial — United States v. Burke (2d Cir. 1983): the scheme "unraveled when Henry Hill was indicted by state authorities on drug conspiracy charges and subsequently was implicated in the Lufthansa robbery." That is the court's account of how the case came to light, not a finding against him.
- Trial, E.D.N.Y. — Same opinion: "the government's case consisted principally of the testimony of Henry Hill and three other witnesses"; he "had been thoroughly impeached at trial," "conceded that he was a career criminal," and a redacted version of his immunity agreement was read to the jury. The opinion does not print the trial date; the appeal was decided 28 January 1983.
No family or role is set. The Second Circuit calls him “a reputed underworld figure from New York”; that describes a reputation, not a rank.
The FBI file prints home addresses and family details; none are repeated here. No opinion recording his testimony in a Lufthansa-related case has been opened for this archive.
