On the record
- 30 September 1955 — An FBI Miami memorandum says that "In recent months SANTO TRAFFICANTE, JR. has been making frequent trips to Havana, Cuba, where he is closely associated with NORMAN ROTHMAN," giving an FBI number for Rothman.
- July 1957 — An FBI summary on Trafficante lists Rothman among his associates and repeats that Trafficante "is known to have made frequent trips to Havana, Cuba where he is closely associated with NORMAN ROTHMAN."
Both statements come from the FBI’s Trafficante file and describe an association, not any act. A National Archives insert in the same part of the file lists serials removed to the JFK Collection, one of which appears in the text layer to concern Rothman; it was not opened. No record filed here gives his role in any Havana casino or his dates of birth or death.
