The National Archives at San Francisco holds this page in the series “Warden’s Notebook Pages” (Record Group 129, Bureau of Prisons). It is headed in red “Transferred to USP Leavenworth, September 25, 1937” and shows the name Richard T. Galatas, No. 331, received 6 August 1936 from Leavenworth. The offense is “Conspiracy,” dated 5 January 1935, sentence “2 years & $10,000 fine,” district “W/Missouri-Kansas City.” A red note says he was released on writ and bond on 17 January 1935 and returned on 28 March 1936. A photograph of the inmate is on the page, and the catalog’s data field gives the remark “KCUS MASSACRE.”

The “Reason For Transfer” box reads in part: “The instant offense of conspiracy in which subject participated resulted in the most serious & flagrant defiance of law & order which has occured in recent history. His acts culminated in the brutal murders of officers who were returning Frank Nash, a desperate criminal, to USP Leavenworth. Committee recommends: Transfer as a matter of Public Policy.” The box is the prison committee’s language in 1936 and is quoted as such. The page also lists the co-defendants and an arrest history, which are not repeated here. The text was read from the page image stored here; a downscaled copy is shown.
