Chart E was presented by Deputy Chief Inspector Shanley on October 8, 1963. It faces printed page 313 of Part 1 and was scanned in two segments, NCJRS PDF pages 339 and 340. The image stored here is the first segment, PDF page 339.
The chart is headed “The Joseph Bonanno Family.” Joseph Bonanno, alias “Joe Bananas,” is in the box labelled “Boss.” Carmine Galante, alias “Lillo” and “The Cigar,” is labelled “Underboss,” as successor to Giovanni Bonventre, “now retired in Sicily.” The box labelled “Consigliere” holds Frank Garafolo, alias “Frank Carroll,” also marked retired. Joseph Notaro is labelled caporegime, beside the words “other caporegime unidentified.” Soldiers (“Soldiers—Buttons”) follow with photographs and activity codes. Chairman McClellan asked: “I believe there are 21 on the chart, is that right?” He then asked whether “Of those Valachi has identified 17 and 4 he has failed to identify,” and Shanley agreed.
This is a subcommittee exhibit. The names, ranks and relationships printed on it are the labels of a 1963 police or staff chart. They are not findings of the subcommittee or of a court, and this archive does not copy any of them onto a family page or a person page. The scan is the Bureau of Narcotics library copy of the printed hearings. The fold-out was photographed in overlapping segments, so a name at the edge of one segment may be cut off and repeated on the next.
