Joe Palmer appealed his conviction for the killing of a guard, Major Crowson, during the break from the Eastham State Farm on January 16, 1934. The opinion summarizes the State’s “uncontroverted testimony”: that James Mullins, after his discharge, “went to Dallas, where he procured several automatic pistols, some shotguns and Browning high-powered rifles, which he, Clyde Barrow, Bonnie Parker and Floyd Hamilton, brother of Raymond, carried to Eastham farm in Barrow’s V-8 Ford coupe.”
CourtListener gives the opinion as delivered October 10, 1934, decided on the merits March 6, 1935, with rehearing denied April 3, 1935. It is a state case; Barrow and Parker were not parties to it. The FBI’s history page gives its own account of the same break.
